The Humble Beginnings of a Rovin’ Soul brims with rootsy vigor and natural camaraderie, framing Bawinkel’s hearty Joe Strummer–like vocals with galvanizing acoustic guitars, mandolins, and accordion. A rugged blue-collar spirit animates “Da Boss” and “It Is Well,” while “Timothy” and “Backpack” touch on Christian themes without preachiness.
