The farewell release from A Minor Forest, So, Were They in Some Sort of Fight? compiles B-sides, compilation tracks, other rarities, and unreleased material from throughout the band's career over the course of two nearly full compact discs. The sheer length makes it a bit of a daunting listen, particularly knowing that this sort of material rarely produces a consistent listen. And the collection is erratic: some of the experiments simply don't work, while others drag on too long or are poorly recorded. But sandwiched in between are songs ("pieces" might be a better word in some cases) that rank with the best of the group's output; so, for fans, this is definitely worth exploring, especially since — unfortunately — there won't be any more material forthcoming.
