A Tribute To Bob Dylan In the 80s, Vol. One (Deluxe)

This tribute's producers—Jesse Lauter (Elvis Perkins, The Low Anthem) and Sean O’Brien (Dawes, PAPA)—say its mission is “to shed new light on a large cache of Bob Dylan songs that have long gone ignored.” This period starts with 1980’s Saved and ends with 1990’s Under the Red Sky, including unreleased songs from the era and Dylan’s work with The Traveling Wilburys. Portions of the proceeds from album sales will go to the charity Pencils of Promise, a nonprofit organization that builds schools and increases education opportunities in the developing world. Here, the song quality and individual performances vary, with Aaron Freeman of Ween and Slash getting plenty weird for Under the Red Sky’s “Wiggle Wiggle” and Dawn Landes and Bonnie “Prince” Billy playing a quieter folk rendition of Empire Burlesque’s “Dark Eyes.” Marco Benevento offers a piano-based instrumental version of “Every Grain of Sand” from Shot of Love. The deluxe edition includes seven digital-only tracks available exclusively via iTunes.
