Details
[Edit]Japanese psych wizards Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O. are one of a few space-rock bands who can translate the paint-stripping intensity of their live shows onto a recording. But they balance this with finesse and restraint as heard in the 32-minute epic “Part 1” of Pink Lady Lemonade—You’re from Inner Space. It starts with a hypnotic incantation of fingerpicked electric guitar, Moog, and Kawabata Makoto singing in a chanting style. The drums and bass don’t play until 12 minutes into the jam. Similar to its live versions, the song violently erupts with a howling guitar solo during the last five minutes: a beautiful reward for the patient listener. The stormy instrumental “Part 2” plants the listener mid-maelstrom. Instant walls of six-string distortion hold up scrambled leads of lysergic feedback over jazzy drums that play like a demonically possessed Gene Krupa. Where “Part 2” planted a seed of sonic chaos, “Part 3” blossoms with 10-and-a-half minutes of blissed-out guitar wash before “Part 4” closes like a 20-minute reprise of “Part 1.”
