This eclectic 13 piece collection is guitar noodling near its finest, but there are drawbacks to having an entire album where each tune has the same simple approach. Legg has assembled an electro-acoustic instrument from spare parts, to hear his liner notes tell it, and this makes for some interesting, if not wholly captivating listening. While his stroking of the strings is often elegant as well as exciting, it's just Legg and his guitar — no rhythm and a little too much freedom at the expense of totally distinctive melodies. Too often the pieces seem to run into each other, but a few, such as the sweet "Nail Talk" and countrified "Reckless Love," do manage to stand out from the pack. Guitars & Other Cathedrals is more accessible than some of Relativity's more hard edged projects (a la Scott Henderson), but will still be most palatable for guitar freaks looking for something unique.
