The Goofus Five was a small group taken out of The California Ramblers. Its top soloist was Adrian Rollini, the master of the bass saxophonist who doubled on a small keyboard called the goofus. All of their recordings from a one-year period are included on this Timeless CD which also features fine solo and ensemblework from trumpeter Chelsea Quealey, trombonist Abe Lincoln, tenorman Sam Ruby and Bobby Davis on clarinet, alto and soprano. The 24 selections range from Dixielandish instrumentals to pop vocals with all of the music falling in the genre of hot dance music. Collectors of 1920s music should not hesitate to get this one.
