Gold: Aerosmith

This collection of the group’s work for the Geffen Records label in the ‘80s is a solid look at the amazing comeback made by these ‘70s hard rockers. This is the material that put them on MTV when most people assumed the group’s “Toxic Twins,” singer Steven Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry, were beyond reconciliation. However, there’s Perry’s “Let the Music Do the Talking,” a track he’d cut with his own Joe Perry Project, with Tyler taking over the vocal chores. Among the radio hits were “Dude (Looks Like a Lady),” “Love In an Elevator,” “Janie’s Got a Gun” and the power ballad “Angel.” The tunes are strong and memorable. “Blind Man” may be the most infectious of the batch with “Cryin’” being the best of the power ballads. As a bonus, the band include live recordings of their earlier hits, “Dream On” and “Sweet Emotion,” from the ‘70s, when they were recording for another label.
