[Edit]Al Campbell has always deserved more recognition than he's gotten. A relaxed and sweet-voiced singer, he's equally at home in falsetto loverman, computer-driven dancehall, and crooning roots modes. On Always in My Heart he spends time in each of those contexts, skanking in a smooth roots-wise style on "Try Jah Love" and "Live Up," speaking in a gentle voice of warning on the more dancehall-inflected "Brotherman," and placing his heart on his sleeve for the romantic plea "Could You." He shows fine taste in cover versions, delivering excellent versions of the rocksteady classics "No Jestering" (better-known as part of the Upsetters' repertoire) and "Officially." Interestingly on these tracks his delivery is strongly reminiscent of Larry Marshall's. Recommended.
