[Edit]Alex Nackman comes off as more of a pop/rock stylist than a distinctive songwriter on his third album, Sunrise Falls. The folk-rock arrangements, with their chiming electric guitar riffs and driving rhythms, give the songs an urgency that Nackman reinforces with his throaty, impassioned singing. And the songs are catchy, with strong hooks. But the lyrics, which tend to be de-emphasized, find the singer suffering the usual romantic difficulties of all pop music, expressed in words that fit the contours of the music but don't stand out as particularly meaningful, so that Sunrise Falls is the sort of album that sounds better if one doesn't listen all that carefully.
