New Orleans trumpeter Alvin Alcorn is best known for his association with Kid Ory and did not lead that many sessions of his own. This Storyville CD has some rare live performances by Alcorn with a variety of top Dixielanders during three occasions in 1952-1953. The repertoire mostly has typical standards, but Alcorn sounds in fine form, and his sidemen (which include clarinetist Raymond Burke, trombonist Jack Delaney, and pianist Stan Mendelson) are spirited in their solos and ensemble playing. Highlights include "Original Dixieland One Step," "Royal Garden Blues," "Over the Waves," and "Roses of Picardy."
