[Edit]The Swiss harp legend Andreas Vollenweider, who last charmed audiences with his world music-oriented 1999 masterwork Cosmopoly, returns from a six-year studio hiatus with a newly created label (Kin Kou, a subsidiary of Savoy Jazz) and a brilliant forthcoming disc, Vox, which is previewed on the bonus-material DVD included in Magic Harp, a comprehensive career retrospective. The audio disc features 12 classic tracks culled from Vollenweider's fascinating catalog, including well-known gems from his breakthrough Down to the Moon, and two songs from Cosmopoly (including the exotic "Cor Do Amor," with Brazilian vocal great Milton Nascimento). There's also the opening track from Vox, "Hey You! Yes, You..." and a previously unpublished song, "Moonday," taken from a 1987 live appearance in Tokyo. Kin Kou was created not only for new Vollenweider endeavors, but also as an ongoing outlet for 24-bit remastered editions of all of his previous albums. A great value for longtime fans and newcomers alike, Magic Harp is both a loving look back and a dashing preview of what's coming from a wondrous, creative mind that has taken Vollenweider far beyond his description as a "groundbreaking new age artist."
