Details
[Edit]Anton Sanko has played with singer/songwriter Suzanne Vega, collaborated with the singer Anna Domino as well as the late writer/rocker Jim Carroll, and scored a number of film and television projects, including the award-winning television series Big Love. In 2010, he wrote music for Rabbit Hole, a dramatic feature directed by John Cameron Mitchell and starring Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart. The film follows a couple whose lives are shattered by the sudden death of their son. Sanko’s music is low-key throughout the film, which makes for an effective contrast to the powerful drama on the screen. “Cleaning” highlights ukulele and charango backed by flutes and woodwind; on “Opening Titles,” deftly deployed strings and clarinet are set against tiple. “The Accident,” which marks a key turning point in the film, features a slow and simple piano part that works wonderfully. On “Open House” a sense of looking forward filters in, and delicately plucked tones fill the air like dancing motes in rays of light on “Walking the Dog.” The album closes with “Uncomfortable Silence,” a short piece that is both melancholy and hopeful.
