With more than seventy-seven minutes of recording time and twelve tracks (including two suites), Armando Battiston shows a remarkable ability to play in any style of jazz and to do it well. The music ranges from danceable fusion to straight-ahead bop to even some exciting free playing. Battiston does it mostly on piano, but he also performs on synthesizer, electronics, chromatic mouth organ, bass recorder, and flute. Backed by competent bass and drums, and a wild vocalist on one tune, the dizzying show of talent can be distracting - but it is all played singularly well. There really is something for everyone, and if there is drawback, it is only that by trying to satisfy everyone, Battiston may end up satisfying fewer than otherwise. His fingers do fly with lightning speed, and his super technique dazzles with electrifying talent. His enchanting propensity for abrupt endings ties it all together.
