Details
[Edit]Flugelhornist Art Farmer has lived in Europe (mostly Austria) since 1968 but not many of his European sessions have been available domestically. This Optimism CD contains music originally released by the Bellaphon label. Farmer heads a European quintet that features the tenor of Harry Sokal and his longtime pianist Fritz Pauer. Pauer contributed two of the six selections which include Duke Ellington's "In a Sentimental Mood," "Ah-Leu-Cha" (which is mistakenly attributed to Charlie Parker) and the umpteenth remake of "Farmer's Market." The swinging bop-oriented music on this fairly obscure release is enjoyable enough although not particularly unique.
