Most of this CD is from June 12, 1957, a period of time when pianist Art Hodes was not recording all that often. Four selections are piano solos, four others have Hodes in a trio with bassist Truck Parham and drummer/washboard player Freddy Moore, and three selections have trumpeter Freddie Greenleaf, trombonist Dave Remington, and clarinetist Bill Reinhardt making the group a sextet. For the CD reissue, five previously unreleased piano solos (which are sometimes a little scratchy) from 1939-1940 by Hodes are added to the program. Overall, this is an enjoyable set with Dixieland standards, blues, and some rare material being performed by the distinctive pianist.
