All 17 selections on this 1999 CD were previously unreleased. Art Hodes is heard on unaccompanied piano solos from 1930, 1942, 1944, and 1950. Since he made no recordings from 1929-1938 (there were just two selections as a sideman for his debut in 1928), the four numbers from 1930 (all quite brief, including "Ain't Misbehavin'" and "I Ain't Got Nobody") are quite valuable in offering listeners a glimpse at how Hodes sounded early in his career. Other selections include James P. Johnson's "Snowy Morning Blues," "Dear Old Southland," and a couple live boogie-woogies from 1950. The recording quality is streaky throughout the release, but the music is historic and fairly enjoyable.
