Details
[Edit]From Lawrence, Kansas, Arthur Dodge, et al. meld that high lonesome sound with three-chord chunk. "Into the Blue" opens, and it's catchy and simple enough to make you dust off your electric guitar. And Dodge deserves some sort of award for "Curiosity Didn't Kill the Cat," to which he responds, "It was a big dog." Not just anyone could be so cheeky and get away with it. "How You Been" is probably the most memorable song, a train-ride theme to the greatest teen rebel comedy never made. Want to slow it down a bit? "Chuck & Lila," a duet with one Stephanie Turner, is plaintive and bittersweet. And if closer "Heartache" is any indication, Arthur Dodge & the Horsefeathers' live show is probably equal parts joyful noise and compelling introspection. This debut CD straddles that line artfully.
