Details
[Edit]Wellspring features acoustic guitar tunes sung in a delicate/gentle manner, with some keen pop sensibilities, and of course, "sensitive guy" lyrics. Artists like this have become a dime a dozen in the early 21st century, and Ashton Allen certainly fits all of the requirements to become a standout in the aforementioned genre. On this 2008 release, you get a healthy helping of amiable tunes that would sound perfect playing gently in the background the next time you're sipping a cup of coffee at Barnes & Noble...and wouldn't you know it, Wellspring just happens to be issued as a "Barnes & Noble exclusive!" But maybe this is a tad too harsh, as Allen's tunes are certainly worth a listen if you're an admirer of modern-day "coffeehouse acoustic pop," especially ditties like "Something in the Sound," "Promise," and the title track. With Wellspring, Ashton Allen offers a smart set of relaxing, entirely inoffensive acoustic pop.
