It would be silly to expect some sort of crossover or sellout on Atari Teenage Riot's major-label debut, 60 Second Wipe Out. Instead, the group that introduced distorted breakbeat thrash to American/alternative audiences returned with an album of much the same. There is no lack of anarchist politics and hands-in-the-air shout-alongs, whose lyrics are pretty aptly summed up by the titles "Death of a President D.I.Y.!," "By Any Means Necessary," and "Revolution Action" (the latter was released as a trailer single, perhaps intentionally, on the same day the German legislature met in Berlin's Reichstag for the first time in over 50 years). Frontman Alec Empire's computer-thrash productions haven't taken any giant leaps in the two years since the previous ATR LP, though he does add bridges to a few songs, including the marathon five minutes of "Western Decay." Still, 60 Second Wipe Out has all of the ingredients fans could expect from their favorite anarcho-hardcore-electronica group.
