[Edit]Ativin's 11-song album, Interiors, is a declaration of emotional expression in subtle contexts. Nothing grandiose in display, it relies on repetition, melody, and gentle caresses of sound. The grooves are restrained, and the feel is almost organic in origin. Occasionally drawing comparisons to such acts as Roadside Monument (their lighter parts), Tortoise, and Slint, Ativin is none of these. They are instead their own display of prowess and angular rhythms tightly held together by gentle strokes of brushes and flowing guitars. Think more along the lines of a jagged, guitar-driven version of Low. This is perfect music to relax to and soak in all the winter dreariness of a northern landscape.
