[Edit]There was a time when arena rock was more of a destination for a band than a genre in and of itself. The arena was the end of the journey, a symbol of stardom that bands like Kiss and Cheap Trick worked tirelessly to live up to. This leads us to Bad City, a Chicago band that’s swinging for the fences on its debut album, Welcome to the Wasteland. With huge guitars, bigger hooks, and arena-ready guitar harmonies and gang vocals, Bad City are like something out of Greek mythology, springing forth from Lake Michigan fully formed and ready to take the stage to deliver a pyrotechnic-fueled rock spectacular. While this kind of sound isn’t anything new, tracks like “Call Paul Stanley” manage to deliver something big and anthemic enough to make it worth giving them a listen rather than dusting off a copy of Destroyer or Hysteria, showing that Bad City have what it takes to get fists pumping, even if they're not in front of thousands of screaming fans just yet.
