Like fellow Minneapolis punkers Dillinger Four and Off with Their Heads, Banner Pilot are a polished punk group who show an affinity for pop hooks, but they're just a little too raw and gravelly to be lumped into the emo-pop scene. That's not a bad thing. As punk is being overrun by the Fall Out Boys of the world, it's refreshing to find a band that reaches beyond New Found Glory influences and takes a cue from a group with D.I.Y. roots like Jawbreaker. For Collapser, the boys in the band (vocalist/guitarist Nick Johnson and his mates (Nate Gangelhoff, Corey Ayd, and Nick Johnson) consistantly write melodies with enough hooks that they could be bottled up and guzzled by the mainstream, while retaining their fiery edge. While the release can become a little samey at times, there's nothing distinctly bad about it, either. It's a steady drive of crunchy jams.
