Details
[Edit]Selections: Nils Vigeland "Vara" (1979) / Alvin Lucier "Self Portrait" (1979/1990) / Yasunao Tone "Trio for flute player" and "Lyrictron" / Barbara Held "Upper Air Observation". Remarkable musicality on originally commissioned works producing new possibilities for flute and electronics — Lucier's "Self-Portrait" uses a wind anemometer, activated by streams of air from the flutist's lips, that causes a light beamed through its blades to gradually reveal parts of the player's body; haiku poems are generated by a computer which detects the pitches of the flute in Yasunao Tone's beautiful "Lyrictron"; Held's "Upper Air Observation" uses recordings of a radio sonde weather balloon launching and other sounds. ~ "Blue" Gene Tyranny, Rovi
