Fiddler Barbara Lamb's second solo album following her departure from Ranch Romance finds her continuing to branch out stylistically and showcases her impressive range as a musician. She opens with the bluegrass standard "Barefoot Nellie," played (and sung) at breakneck speed and featuring fine vocals from Larry Stephenson, then proceeds to hop from classic Western swing ("Herman's Polka") to straight-ahead jazz ("Satin Doll") and cowboy yodeling tunes ("I'll Grab My Saddlehorn and Blow," featuring Ranch Romance), while frequently returning to standard fiddle territory with tunes like "Say Old Man, Can You Play the Fiddle" and "Bill Cheatham" (the latter a duet with banjo legend Tony Trischka). Everything on this album is very good, but particular highlights include the title track, which features excellent vocals by Sarah Majors, and that spectacular version of "Bill Cheatham."
