Details
[Edit]Decent as an introduction, but probably better suited for the devoted fan, this 18-song, career-spanning set showcases the impressive eclecticism of Barbara Manning. From the Celtic-tinged cover of Paul McCartney's "Don't Let It Bring You Down" to the driving grunge pop of "Damned Lucky," Manning's talents as both a songwriter and song interpreter are in evidence. Culled from 7"s, compilations, previously unreleased tracks, and off-the-cuff outtakes, the collection may lack cohesiveness but ultimately triumphs by virtue of Manning's sincerity. Sure, a few too many tracks might fall firmly into the "oddity" category, such as a hilariously out-of-tune duet with Mad V. Dog on Hank Williams' "Baby We're Really in Love," but the general quality of these tracks prove that not all the great female songwriters of the '90s were in the Lilith Fair camp.
