Radiance

Of the few Basic Channel records ever put on vinyl, Radiance stands alone as the most sedate, disorientating journey in the canon. One side of the record contains almost no bass frequencies or percussion, instead twinkling with phasing loops of sequenced tones to establish a surreal listening experience. The flip side of the record integrates an ultra-deep, dub bassline for a similar set of the twinkling high-end sounds. Radiance embodies the concept of ambience, functioning as music capable of drawing one into a strange aural environment for approximately 15 minutes on each side of the record until the needle reaches the innermost groove of silent static. Titled well, this song indeed radiates a tranquil mood of sonic bliss in a way that only the more subdued releases by the Chain Reaction camp have come close to duplicating: the transcendental derivation of dark, calm beauty from dated sound equipment.
