[Edit]Batacotô is a band of extremely capable Carioca musicians built around Mart'nália, the daughter of the renowned sambista Martinho da Vila. This album focuses in the afro heritage, with the Angolan song "Muadiakime" and plenty of percussion. It is not dedicated to folklore research, but to a pop recreation of the tradition, where keyboards coexist with dense percussive textures, a funk rendition for Ivan Lins' "Bem querer" and Brazilian sambas. Highlights for "Coité e cuia," by the respectable duo of sambistas Wilson Moreira and Nei Lopes; the stylized Northeastern groove of "Candeeiro encantado" (Lenine/Paulo César Pinheiro), and "Esse negro não se enxerga."
