Baz Luhrmann wrote and directed 1996's William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet and 1992's Strictly Ballroom. He also acted in The Dark Room (1982) as the first student, and in Winter of Our Dreams (1981) as Pete. The music for Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen) comes from Romeo & Juliet. The vocals are performed by the Australian actor, Lee Perry, contrary to popular belief that Luhrmann is actually the vocalist, which he is not. Everybody's Free entered Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart in March of 1999. After the release of Something for Everybody, the album sales increased 150-percent almost overnight. Everybody's Free was originally written by Mary Schmich, journalist for the Chicago Tribune.
