This Hollywood, Fla.–based trio rides the waves of '60s-inspired girl/surf/beach pop as skillfully as any other band reviving a genre that wasn't thoroughly explored the first few times around. Jim Diamond's production uses only reverb to add shimmer to these deliberately lightweight songs, where life is a harmony away from perfect. A gloriously simple, distorted guitar solo from Kimmy Drake captures raw simplicity, while Skyler Black's fearless, artless drum-pounding sends the right amount of aggression. The '60s-styled organ augmenting the rush of "Little Weird" is the only color necessary. "Seventeen" slows down, with the band members' hearts on their sleeves and their tongues somewhere in their cheeks. "Come Back to Me" continues the feel of Phil Spector-ish biker rock: another genre that never quite existed the first time around but now—through the confusion of the decades—is as viable as any. There may not be new revelations here, but the joys of "Beach Day," "Boys," and "Wasting All My Time" render that point moot.
