Details
[Edit]In 1996, Beth Orton released Trailer Park, a debut album that merged the sensitive musings of an acoustic singer-songwriter with the electronic firepower of a clubrat who understood quirky synths, trip-hop rhythms, the orchestral attack of violins, violas and cellos, and a liberal smearing of studio effects. The fresh approach was further strengthened by songwriting that made the most of these textures, joined by producers who mixed everything for maximum effect. “Touch Me With Your Love,” “Live As You Dream,” and “How Far” remain among Orton’s finest material. The William Orbit collaboration for “She Cries Your Name” holds its haunted origins and the Spector/Greenwich/Barry cover of “I Wish I Never Saw The Sunshine” builds the bridge between decades of expressive pop music. The 2009 re-mastered edition includes the b-sides of the era’s CD singles, an instrumental version of “Touch Me With Your Love,” the 1997 EP Best Bit with Terry Callier, and Barry Mann’s “I Love How You Love Me” from the 1998 Mojo soundtrack.
