Who better to bid farewell to the New York Mets’ legendary Shea Stadium than Long Island’s own legend, Billy Joel. Joel is the perfect performer for the venue, able to sing to the final seat in the house. He runs through his incredible catalog and invites Tony Bennett for “New York State of Mind,” Garth Brooks for “Shameless,” John Mayer for “This Is the Time,” and Paul McCartney, another Shea regular, for revved-up renditions of “I Saw Her Standing There” and “Let It Be,” songs that serve both ends of the concert spectrum. Joel was in great spirits and he nails it with “Captain Jack,” “Piano Man,” a clever medley of “The River of Dreams” and “A Hard Day’s Night.” Even “We Didn’t Start the Fire” gets the audience fired up. The inclusion of “Summer, Highland Falls” and “The Ballad of Billy The Kid” satisfy the hardcore fans, while everyone can rally with “You May Be Right.”
