[Edit]An all-star group (consisting of trumpeter Don Sickler, altoist Jackie McLean, tenor-saxophonist Johnny Griffin, baritonist Cecil Payne, pianist Duke Jordan, bassist Ron Carter and drummer Roy Haynes) is heard performing five Charlie Parker compositions and McLean's "Bird Lives" at a Paris concert on this enjoyable CD. McLean in particular is in superior form and Sickler's transcriptions (which sometimes feature the group playing excerpts from Charlie Parker and Duke Jordan recorded solos) uplifts the set above the level of a jam session.
