[Edit]Originally released as a 12" in 1988, this nine-song collection is a progressive hardcore dynamo that quickly landed Bitch Magnet on the underground A-list. Often compared to Slint, this characterization isn't particularly accurate. On Star Booty, the group prefers to remain locked into their guitar riff powerband — letting up for meandering experiments and dark ruminations isn't much of a consideration. This lust for horsepower is most evident on the churning "Hatpins" and "Circle K." Unlike the more dynamic Slint, Bitch Magnet hardly ever shakes the rampant attitude expressed on these numbers. Collectors will do well to find a vinyl copy of Star Booty. Casual fans should look for one of the later issues of this disc packaged with the full-length Umber.
