Recorded live at the Troubadour in Los Angeles in October 2000, Alcohol Fueled Brewtality shows Zakk Wylde’s ability to turn uncompromising, no-holds-barred metal into one hell of a party. Songs like “Lost My Better Half” and “Born to Lose” marry the low-slung attitude of vintage Southern rock to the colossal aggression of modern-day metal. Certainly Wylde’s foremost talent is his ability to create something that feels vintage even when it's entirely modern. “Super Terrorizer” is a spastic explosion that outmatches Korn for pure elastic fury. Wylde’s band creates a frothing wave of low-bottomed blues metal, out of which Wylde’s unhinged guitar leaps like flames from gasoline. Among the highpoints are “13 Years of Grief,” “Stronger Than Death," and “Phoney Smiles & Fake Hellos.” The concert winds down with an epic take on Ozzy’s “No More Tears,” while a bonus disc of studio outtakes delves into some of Wylde’s favorite cover versions, including brooding acoustic-oriented readings of Neil Young’s “Heart of Gold” and Black Sabbath’s “Snowblind.”
