Details
[Edit]One of the great unheralded Southern rock groups, Kentucky’s Black Stone Cherry are masters of classic-rock guitar riffs mixed to a post-grunge attitude. They are one of the finest hard-rock bands of the 21st century and their third album, Between the Devil & the Deep Blue Sea, further establishes their reputation. “White Trash Millionaire” comes out of the gate kicking with an uncompromising aggression. “In My Blood,” “Won’t Let Go” and “Stay” showcase singer Chris Robertson’s emotional range. The ‘cry’ in his voice is as powerful as any country singer. “Such a Shame” throws a Led Zeppelin Southern boogie riff into the mix. “Blame It On the Boom Boom,” “Let Me See You Shake” and a pile-driving version of the Marshall Tucker Band’s “Can’t You See” put forth a modern-rock power rich with slink and sass. “Like I Roll” is a delicious pop tune with classic-rock references. “All I’m Dreamin’ Of” throws in a mandolin for a country-bluegrass touch. The Special Edition includes three bonus tracks every bit as powerful as the official cuts. “Fade Away” is a striking acoustic-electric tune that works the dynamic range.
