An Ohio emcee best known for his work with producer Blueprint, Illogic has been doing his thing since the mid-'90s, making a name for himself as a top-shelf freestyler and dropping several records on Weightless Recordings, including Unforeseen Shadows, Got Lyrics?, and Celestial Clockwork, plus multiple mixtapes and collaborations with likeminded subterranean rappers like Aesop Rock and Slug. Following up two volumes of the Prepare for Capture EPs, he and Blockhead break fans off with Capture the Sun, a rock-solid effort full of intricate, intelligent wordplay and inventive, genre-bending production. Highly personal, autobiographical rhymes are the order of the day, set to compelling beats that fuse obscure samples, melodramatic strings, slick cuts, and unconventional drumwork. Don't sleep on "Never Heard," "Where's the Exit," and "One Way Ticket."
