You get the feeling that the members of Blood on the Saddle listened to a collection of old Sun Records rockabilly singles on a record player that ran a little too fast, so that they think everything has to be taken at breakneck speed. (And they don't waste any time; although it is billed as a full-length album, Blood On The Saddle runs barely 25 minutes.) This makes their debut LP exciting—and exhausting—to listen to. There's not enough of singer Annette Zilinskas—her "(I Wish I Was A) Single Girl (Again)" is a highlight—and her duets with Greg Davis make John Doe and Exene Cervenka of X sound like Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme, but as with much punk, this stuff gets by on sheer energy.
