Joe Ferry brought Art Blakey, David Newman and Dr. John together for the concept album Bluesiana Triangle in 1989. This latest project, conceived as a tribute to the prior Bluesiana records, again links jazz, R&B and rock players doing both pop and improvisational material, with the funds again going to the homeless. The assembled cast included trombonist Ray Anderson, harmonica ace Toots Thielemans at his bluesiest on "Brickyard Blues," and soulful tenor from Mike Brecker. Living Colour drummer Will Calhoun was once more funky and in the groove, contributing a solid vocal on "Ruby's Flowers," his own composition. This group does an admirable job of saluting the original cast while also making its own effective statement.
