Details
[Edit]Beginning with his 1960 Top Ten hit "Let's Think About Living," an entertaining topical song bemoaning the glut of death-obsessed teen ballads of the era, and continuing through 1976, Classic Country compiles 15 of Luman's hits for Warner and Epic, all of which made the country Top 100. Little indication is given of Luman's rockabilly roots on these recordings, although many tracks display a distinct rock influence — particularly his propulsive remakes of "A Satisfied Mind" and Johnny Horton's "Honky Tonk Man." Featuring a brief endorsement from Steve Wariner (who penned two songs that became minor hits for Luman in 1976), Classic Country is a fine retrospective of an often overlooked hitmaker of the '60s and '70s.
