The 12th album by Bob Marley & The Wailers was also Marley's second posthumous LP. Legend was released in 1984 and has since become the best-selling reggae album ever, boasting more than 25 million global sales. Its success can be partly attributed to a global rise in reggae's popularity in the early '80s—which crested with this stellar compilation featuring the genre's patron saint. Legend simply sequenced Marley's greatest hits and singles from their original vinyl format. It opens with the sunny "Is This Love" before stretching out a live version of the beautifully melancholy "No Woman No Cry." Legend also boasts three songs that were recorded by The Wailers' original lineup, back when Bunny Livingston and Peter Tosh were in the band: the infectious "Stir It Up," the politically charged "Get Up, Stand Up," and the outlaw hit "I Shot the Sheriff" (which was covered by Eric Clapton in 1974).
