Details
[Edit]With her husky, breathy vocals, singer Bruna Loppez almost single-handedly takes this from being a decent Italian jazz album to a really great Italian jazz album. That is not meant to slight the rest of Bossa Nostra in any way; they deliver a wonderful collection of nimbly played, fast-paced jazz that really holds the album together. But it is Loppez who delivers the final touch, from the incredible trip-hop of "Before It's Too Late" to the delicate cooing of "Jackie." Jumping from style to style, language to language, the band never misses a step and keeps on delivering the solid jazz from moment one to the final track. This is one album that should appeal to a wide variety of listeners, to fans of female-fronted soft rock to fans of fluid European jazz. Few artists in this genre were making albums this good in 1999, but Bossa Nostra was making music this good without a trace of critical praise. This would make an excellent introduction both to the group and the modern approach to jazz that Bossa Nostra takes.
