[Edit]Although the violin concerto was pioneered by Baroque masters like Vivaldi and Bach and refined during the Classical period, it was perfected in the Romantic era by Felix Mendelssohn. Influenced equally by a trio of iconic composers—Mozart, Beethoven and Bach—Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E Minor had a deep influence on the concerto from Max Bruch written 20 years later. With his crystalline tone and commanding authority, Jascha Heifetz bridges this pair of demanding concertos. He also demonstrates why he was the most celebrated violin soloist of his generation, using fierce virtuosity, vibrato and subtle variations in tone to deliver radiant renditions of these oft-played pieces of repertoire.
