The critical acclaim has been extreme. “Won”—from The Bots’ album Pink Palms—illustrates the uncommon power of this Los Angeles–based duo of brothers Mikaiah and Anaiah Lei. The duo created a buzz back when both brothers were in their teens. (Mikaiah, the elder, turned 20 by Pink Palms' release.) Their adventurous take on garage and indie transcends their admitted heroes, The White Stripes and The Black Keys. Justin Warfield produced with assistance from Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Nick Zinner. Tracks here like the slinky and atmospheric “Wet Blanket” and the gently rhythmic “Bad Friends” demonstrate the Lei brothers' extensive range and abilities.
