Details
[Edit]Broadcast were at the vanguard of U.K. post-rock's second wave, but while they were seemingly inspired by the efforts of first-wavers like Stereolab and Pram, they also declared their fealty to the blend of electronics and psychedelia pioneered by such '60s bands as The United States of America. So although their 2000 debut album, The Noise Made by People, shares Stereolab's fascination with analog electronics and singer Trish Kennan's artfully detached croon bears some surface similarities to that of Laetitia Sadier, there's more going on here than love of Stereolab. Tunes like "Echo's Answer" place poignant melodicism alongside atmospheric washes of electronics for a gorgeously hazy feel, akin to the bittersweet sheen of a memory viewed through the warmly obscuring filter of nostalgia.
