Intended as a farewell to fans following Brutal Truth's 1998 breakup, the double-disc set Goodbye Cruel World features one disc of live material and another of rarities, including alternate takes, covers of groups like the Boredoms and the Melvins, and bonus tracks and B-sides issued only on Japanese releases. The live disc is a real barn-burner, proving once again that not only was Brutal Truth one of the most skilled and musical grindcore-influenced outfits around, but also packed even more of a punch in the flesh. The rarities disc is designed more for the dedicated fan and collector, but even so, there's some interesting material that helps make up for its inconsistency. Overall, it's a fine way to say goodbye.
