Flashback 2014

In early 1967, the Buckinghams went from being just another promising rock band in Chicago to nationwide stardom when their single "Kind of a Drag" became a hit that went to the very top of the pop charts. The Buckinghams left local label USA Records for a new contract with Columbia, one of America's most powerful and prestigious labels, and they scored hits with "Don't You Care," "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy," and "Hey Baby, They're Playing Our Song," all of which reflected their trademark blend of polished vocals, soul-inspired horns, and arrangements that were at once glossy and full of rock & roll punch. By the end of 1968, the Buckinghams' days as hitmakers were over, but their songs have remained staples of oldies radio, and a version of the group featuring founding members Carl Giammarese (lead vocals and guitar) and Nick Fortuna (bass and vocals) still tours in the 21st century. Flashback is an album from the 2014 edition of the Buckinghams, featuring Giammarese and Fortuna, which includes new recordings of a dozen songs from the group's hitmaking era, mimicking the production and arrangements of the classic singles.
