[Edit]This is a rather unusual record. The duo of clarinetist Buddy DeFranco and guitarist Jim Gillis perform ten "Etudes" that had been commissioned as an educational project for jazz clarinet students. Since the music contains some strong (if not particularly memorable) melodies, DeFranco and Gillis decided to record the pieces and improvise off of them. The results are pleasing, making this somewhat rare LP a bit of a collector's item.
