Details
[Edit]This is an unusual LP (from the British Spotlite label) featuring drummer Buddy Rich during a period when he was mostly heading smaller groups. The two radio broadcasts (which originated from Birdland) feature the explosive drummer in a quintet also including the obscure but talented trombonist Ole Hansen, altoist Sonny Criss, pianist Kenny Drew and bassist Phil Lesin. Drew is showcased on "If I Were a Bell"; the Dave Lambert Singers guest on "Ev'ry Day"; and there are four fine jams for the quintet, including a pair of Kenny Drew tunes and "I Don't Wanna Be Kissed." The alto/trombone blend works quite well, and Hansen keeps up with the better-known players.
