Ragtime went through revivals in the 1950s and the 1970s, so we're probably overdue for yet another in the 1990s. Who better to lead the next one than Butch Thompson, probably the supreme living master of ragtime. Thompson captures the essence of Scott Joplin's compositions without sounding mechanical in his approach. Every cut is a treat, from the very familiar "Maple Leaf Rag" to the beautifully crafted "Solace: A Mexican Serenade" and the elegant "Heliotrope Bouquet." This is another solo piano gem by Butch Thompson.
