Details
[Edit]This postmodern Richmond quartet takes inspiration from the soul of the ‘60s to the R&B of the ‘70s and the hip-hop of the ‘90s, integrating it all into taut and jazzy instrumental jams (excepting singer Jon Bibbs’ appearance on “Faith”). All Purpose Music, the quartet’s 76-minute debut, is what the title promises; there are the slow, deep grooves of “Philly Roll” for chilling out, the jittery funk of “Forest Green” to push the party into gear, and midtempo stuff like the saxophone-led “Sundress” that splits the difference. It all hangs together seamlessly and bodes well for the future life of this up-and-coming band.
